The ADF needs to be disbanded it’s business model is no longer relevant or a true reflection of the needs of the people it serves . We need a new National advocacy body . The state based advocacy groups need to also restructure. Dissociate themselves from the state farmers org . They cannot just be a commodity group inside a state multi based commodity advocacy group. .a discussion has to happen as to effective our association with the NFF is

agree - needs to be a big ticket item. State organisations are sometimes beholden to other commodity groups, Dairy gets lost and multiple resouces are simply duplicated across the industry wasting time, money and skills. Farmers to be direct financial members of a national Advocacy body (if they choose) Elect skill based reps only (rigorous selection) from within the states. This body can work through either through the main head office or by local reps with other state commodity bodies on appropriate issues (local power, rates, transport etc etc)
This body only speaks to government/stakeholders on dairy interests. The old representative advocacy structure is out of date. There are too many organisations often working at cross purposes. Good people put their hand up because they want to help, but their skill set is not always up to date/appropriate/knowledgable enough. Training for reps to a national body can then be done centrally. (understanding policy, competition policy, the political landscape, reading a balance sheet, managing a media message etc etc etc) BUT the selction should be made on potential contribution, not just those with the time and interest.
National Advoacy body has direct affiliation with NFF. There are two many layers in Australian advocacy....... no wonder the message is confused. This body advocates for farmers only. That is their job
