I have a question and concern about the dairy plan regarding what’s on the table and what’s not. Apparently a collective Australian milk pool is defiantly not on the table. I have been told this was raised at the Cobden meeting and rejected by the facilitator. It has been told to me that it would never get passed the ACCC and as such cannot be advanced. If find this a strange and confusing stance to take so early on in the consolation process. I think we need some clarity on this point.
Focusing on the Advocacy structures alone will not lift the milk price nor will removing DA. Now the ownership and control of the milk pool is a major issue. Right now we have MILK 2 MARKET and the
The collaboration club
Recognising that farmers keen to collaborate are often stymied by overwhelming logistics, Friesian is offering a streamlined farmer to processor service.
Fronted by Simon Thornton, a handful of high-flying investors comprising the "Friesian Club" bought McColl's Transport about a year ago with the long-term goal to "build something great".
Now this is now going to fragment even further the already dysfunctional national milk pool. Creating even greater costs structures not less. My view would be that McColl’s would eventually migrate to a flat supply pool because their specialty is milk pick and distribution. Seasonal calving is not in there interest nor is calving to suit the farm.
These people can see a dollar and for the same reason we need to fight for the milk pools control because there is a dollar and a profit in it . the question needs to be asked why is this of the table

They are not set in concrete unless we allow them to be. If a milk pool was an option, DA research role should outline the pros, cons, challenges etc. So while DA cant lobby according to their constitution they can and should fully explore all options. If not what is the point of this exercise
Ironically in the the opening comments DA encourage us to ignore barriers...
